Co-founder of Cloquet landmark Gordy’s Hi-Hat dies at 93

Gordy Lundquist, the founder of Gordy’s Hi-Hat in Cloquet, died on Tuesday. He was 93.

His family announced his passing in a Wednesday morning Facebook post, stating he died at home with his wife of 71 years, Marilyn, by his side.

The announcement recognized Lundquist as "a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather who took tremendous pride in his work and employees over the years."

Gordy spoke with KSTP sister station WDIO News on his 90th birthday in 2017. His way of celebrating the day was doing what he had been doing for 57 years.

"I manage the operation and work the counters. The place is good to me, no sense in changing it," Lundquist told WDIO.

Lundquist started the business in 1961 with his wife Marilyn. He said his favorite part of the job was meeting the people.
