The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of a K-9 that died in a house fire Monday afternoon in rural Nessel Township.

According to the sheriff’s office, the family home of Chisago County Deputy Nate Fisher was engulfed in flames. The Fisher family was gone from the home, but Fisher’s K-9 partner, Kyro, and the family’s two other dogs were inside. None of the dogs survived the fire.

Chisago County deputies and other agencies escorted Kyro’s body to Blue Pearl Animal Hospital in Arden Hills on Monday night for funeral preparations.

“We are forever grateful for K9 Deputy Kyro’s service and he will not be forgotten,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a social media post.

Deputy Fisher’s family “lost everything in the fire,” and the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office Foundation has set up a GoFundMe page to help them recover.
