Chinese national charged with cyberstalking Minnesota student

A Chinese national living in Los Angeles has been charged with harassing and cyberstalking a Minnesota college student.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 27-year-old Ki Cheung Yau created multiple online accounts on various websites using the name, pictures and personal information of the victim.

Since Jan. 4, 2020, Yau used the accounts to communicate with others, seek sexual relationships and advertise invitations for violent sexual encounters.

On two separate occasions in August 2020, a man went to the victim’s home believing he was meeting the victim for a sexual encounter, court documents state. In February 2021, the victim found multiple social media profiles using her name and likeness. Due to Yau’s actions, the victim received numerous contacts from people she didn’t know and was forced to change her phone number and move to a new home.

Yau made his initial court appearance on Tuesday and was ordered to be moved to Minnesota ahead of his next court appearance.
