Charges filed against Wisconsin man who fled traffic stop, shot at law enforcement in Anoka, Sherburne counties

A man who was involved in a pursuit and allegedly shot at law enforcement officers on Saturday has been charged.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Tuesday that 20-year-old Bradley Michael Olsen, of Dresser, Wisconsin, is charged with felony discharge of a firearm, using deadly force against a peace officer, being a felon in possession of a firearm and fleeing police.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, a St. Francis police officer attempted to pull a vehicle over for a traffic violation at 9:47 a.m. near Ambassador Boulevard Northwest and Quicksilver Street Northwest. However, the vehicle fled and the suspect shot at law enforcement several times before it crashed near 245th Avenue and 101st Street Northwest in Livonia Township.

The sheriff’s office said the suspect, Olsen, then fired more shots at law enforcement, leading an Anoka County deputy to return fire. Olsen was then arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries suffered in the crash. The BCA said Olsen wasn’t shot.

The BCA identified the deputy who fired at Olsen as Jeffrey Barrett, a five-year veteran of the sheriff’s office. He is on standard administrative leave.

BCA agents are still reviewing footage from body cameras, squad cameras and witnesses.

The investigation remains active.
