Center City man killed in Cass County ATV crash

Authorities say a man is dead following a weekend crash near Cass County’s Spider Lake.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the Foothills State Forest/Spider Lake ATV Recreation Area just before 3 p.m. Saturday for a report of a missing man.

When a conservation officer arrived at the scene, campers said a 54-year-old Center City man had left the campsite at about 8:30 a.m. on an ATV, and was supposed to return soon after.

When he didn’t return, the campers searched the area.

After deputies and Conservation Officers searched the area as well, the man was found dead at 5:46 p.m.

Authorities say the man’s ATV left the roadway on a curve, entered a steep ravine and rolled over.

The man’s identity hasn’t been released at this time, and an autopsy is scheduled.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
