Cass County traffic stop leads to seizure of heroin, meth, assault rifle

A traffic stop and subsequent search warrant related to a drug investigation in rural Pine River have led to two arrests, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office says.

The sheriff’s office was investigating the use, sale and trafficking of illegal drugs when deputies seized a small amount of ammunition, heroin and what they suspect was meth during a traffic stop on Saturday in Wilson Township.

Authorities then obtained a warrant and searched a home in Barclay Township, where they found two grams of heroin and over half of a pound of suspected meth.

An AR-15-style rifle was also found during the investigation, the sheriff says.

Charges are pending for the two suspects, who are from Pine River.

Several departments have assisted in the ongoing investigation.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office encourages people to submit drug- or crime-related tips to Crime Stoppers.
