Brooklyn Park police provide tips in keeping vehicles safe after 20 auto theft reports made

Over the past week, Brooklyn Park has seen at least 20 auto theft incidents that have been reported and several license plate thefts.

The Brooklyn Park Police Department suggested some prevention tips to avoid any theft.

  • Do not leave your windows down when you go shopping.
  • Make sure that your vehicle is locked and there is nothing of value visible to someone looking in the windows. Even a bag left in a car could entice someone to break in to see what is inside, so don’t leave bags, boxes or containers in there either.
  • Periodically check to make sure both of your license plates are securely fastened to your vehicle. Consider buying some inexpensive anti-theft license plate screws.
  • Please park vehicles in a garage, if possible, with your garage door shut.
  • If you must park vehicles outside, please park in a well-lit area

Police want anyone to call 911 if you are a victim of auto theft and see or hear suspicious activity in your neighborhood.
