Brooklyn Park: over 2,000 Xcel customers lose power after impaired driver hits utility pole
Around 2,100 customers lost power after an impaired driver crashed a vehicle into a utility pole around 2:30 a.m. Sunday in Brooklyn Park, according to Xcel Energy.
Brooklyn Park police say officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on the 4000 block of Brookdale Drive and found a vehicle had struck a power pole.
The damage resulted in a “major power outage in the surrounding neighborhoods,” according to police.
After officers called Xcel, workers came to the scene “immediately” and restored power to the area within an hour.
Xcel says there weren’t any threats to public safety as a result of the crash and outage.
Brooklyn Park officers arrested the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, for driving while impaired.
Police have not provided any information about the driver as of posting. 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has reached out for additional details.
