Brief lockdown at Dar Al Farooq after suspect flees Bloomington police, climbs onto roof

A suspect who fled police in Bloomington and later climbed onto the roof of Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center, causing a brief lockdown, was arrested Friday.

Bloomington Police said officers saw improper plates on a vehicle just after 11:30 a.m. and attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 8200 block of Park Avenue South when the male suspect fled the scene.

At one point, the suspect then got out of his vehicle and ran to Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center/Success Academy, causing a brief lockdown at both the mosque and school, police said.

The suspect was able to get onto the roof, then climbed onto an elevated air conditioning unit and refused to surrender, police said. Eventually, he was arrested.

Bloomington firefighters brought a ladder truck to the scene to help police safely get the suspect off the roof.

No injuries were reported and the lockdown was lifted.
