Brainerd woman hit, killed by truck while walking horse identified

The woman who was struck and killed while walking a horse in Brainerd on Monday has been identified.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff said Wednesday that 33-year-old Katie Marie Yaunick died at the scene after a pickup truck hit her and the horse. The horse also died in the crash.

At around 7 p.m. Monday, authorities responded to the area of Thompson Road and County Road 144 Southeast and found that the eastbound truck hit Yaunick as she was walking west on the shoulder.

Yaunick lived on Thompson Road, not far from where she was hit.

The sheriff said the truck driver, a 44-year-old man from Brainerd, was driving home at the time of the crash and did not suffer any injuries.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol are still investigating.
