Brainerd postpones Arts in the Park event, 4th of July Parade; fireworks still on

Brainerd on Friday announced the postponement of its Arts in the Park event, which usually coincides with the Fourth of July, and the cancellation of its Fourth of July Parade and entertainment.

However, the city said fireworks are still scheduled for the Fourth of July.

“This year is all about picking ourselves back up, dusting off, and finding ways of making the best with what we are allowed to do, rather than focus on what we cannot,” said Community Action Executive Director Dave Badeaux.

Further details on the annual Arts in the Park event will be announced in the coming weeks, the city said.

Brainerd Community Action's board said it took preemptive measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic with the focus on overall community safety.

"At the end of the day, the reality of hosting an event simply proves too uncertain and led us to the difficult decision of changing tradition," the board said in a news release.

“It pains us to make this tough decision, but ultimately we have to do what is in the best interest for all those involved, especially our community members, family and friends. Right now, that means looking at things from fresh perspectives and finding new ways to celebrate the birth of our great nation,” Badeaux added.
