Body found in St. Croix River

A body was found Monday afternoon in the St. Croix River in Stillwater Township.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call about an abandoned boat along the shoreline just after 9 a.m. Deputies arrived and found the boat full of fishing equipment with nobody inside.

Authorities determined the boat was registered to a 43-year-old White Bear Lake man and also found a truck belonging to the same man in the St. Croix Boom Site parking lot.

According to the sheriff’s office, the man’s family said he fishes that area often, usually by himself, during late evening hours, which he’d done Sunday night.

At around 1 p.m., authorities found a body matching the man’s description about a mile south of his boat.

The sheriff’s office says his body didn’t have any obvious signs of trauma and he wasn’t wearing a life jacket.

An autopsy has been scheduled.
