Bloomington man drowns kayaking on Aitkin County lake
A Bloomington man who was kayaking on an Aitkin County lake drowned Sunday.
According to the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office, dispatchers were notified that a person was found unresponsive on Long Lake in Glen Township.
The caller said the man was still in a kayak but it was on its side and he was face down in the water.
The sheriff's office said a father and son brought the man to shore and began CPR. Paramedics took over after arriving on scene.
The men who brought the kayaker to shore told deputies they'd seen the victim fishing from his kayak earlier. The next time they saw him, he was face down in the water.
Lifesaving efforts at the scene were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead. Authorities have identified him as 62-year-old Paul A. Mott.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's preliminary findings indicate Mott died of freshwater drowning.
