Billy’s on Grand in St. Paul to close for the winter
A popular bar and restaurant along Grand Avenue in St. Paul is closing for the winter season at the end of this month.
Billy’s on Grand announced Wednesday that it will close on Oct. 31. A reopening date has not yet been announced.
The restaurant reported being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as being "denied additional support" from the city of St. Paul in handling "unique challenges in our neighborhood late at night."
The restaurant made the announcement via a Facebook post:
We’ve been doing our best over here at Billy’s on Grand to keep our doors open, our staff employed and our guests happy. A lot has been thrown our way this year. The change in ownership and bringing on Chef Jeremy at the beginning of the year was incredibly exciting. But of course, we all know what happened when March came along. COVID has paralyzed our industry in ways that we could not expect. On top of a worldwide pandemic, we’ve dealt with unique challenges in our neighborhood late at night, and despite our vigilant efforts to seek help from the city, we were denied additional support which cost us dearly.
In an effort to protect the business, recover as much as possible, and to try to create longevity for the classic Grand Ave institution that is Billy’s, we’ve made the difficult decision to close Billy’s for the winter.
October 31 will be the last day we’re open for the season.
We appreciate your continued support and from the bottom of our hearts: THANK YOU.
