Belle Plaine woman dead after 2-vehicle crash in Sibley County

A woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash around 11:30 a.m. Friday in Sibley County, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.

The State Patrol has identified the woman as 71-year-old Carol Ann Deutsch of Belle Plaine.

Just before the crash, Deutsch was driving a crossover SUV south and a 30-year-old man from Jordan was driving a pickup truck north on Highway 25 in Faxon Township.

At some point, their vehicles collided in the northbound lane of the highway. The State Patrol did not describe what happened between the time the vehicles were driving in their lanes and the moment they collided.

Deutsch died at the scene. The man and his passenger, a baby under the age of 1, were not hurt.

Deutsch was said to be wearing a seatbelt, as was the baby. The man was not wearing his seatbelt. Additionally, both vehicles’ airbags deployed.

The State Patrol did not say if road conditions were a factor in the crash, but roads were wet at the time.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
