Balaton man arrested after hourslong, overnight standoff in Lyon County
Authorities say a man is in custody Friday after allegedly violating an order for protection in Lyon County.
According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home on the 200 block of North Lake Avenue in Balaton at 9:30 p.m. Thursday for the reported violation, which had previously happened.
Deputies then tried to contact the man suspected of violating the order, identified as a 53-year-old from Balaton, who was at his home on the 100 block of Central Avenue.
While trying to contact him, authorities say the man told deputies to get off his property. The sheriff’s office says deputies also heard what they believe to be a round being chambered into a gun.
Multiple agencies were called in to help and create a perimeter around the home.
Throughout the next several hours, multiple attempts were made to contact the man.
He was eventually arrested at around 4 a.m. and brought to the Lyon County jail. Authorities say they found multiple loaded guns near the man when he was arrested.
The public isn’t considered to be in danger at this time.
