Allegiant airline expanding service to MSP Airport

Low-cost carrier Allegiant airline is including Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in a new expansion plan.

The airline announced it will debut at MSP Airport in October with non-stop routes to Asheville, North Carolina, as well as Punta Gorda and Palm Beach, Florida.

The carrier is promoting one-way airfares as low as $49 when service starts, but as with many low-cost airlines, there are several restrictions on travel and baggage fees.

Allegiant has been around since 1999 with the goal of getting air passengers from small- to medium-sized cities with fares lower than larger domestic airlines.

Service starts on Oct. 7.
