About 4,000 still affected by Xcel Energy outages

UPDATE: As of 9 p.m. Xcel Energy listed more than 200 power outages across Minnesota affecting about 4,000 people.

Crews are still working to restore power to those affected by outages.

Xcel said it had about 38,000 reports of outages throughout the day Wednesday and had about 34,000 restored by 9 p.m.

"We know it’s the holiday season and we thank our customers for their patience and understanding as our employees respond to power outages," Lee Nordby, director of control center operations for Xcel Energy-Minnesota, said. "Our employees are working hard in difficult conditions to quickly and safely restore electric service."

Anyone experiencing an outage is urged to report it to their energy provider.


As snow continues to fall and strong winds impact the state, several power outages had been reported Wednesday afternoon.

Xcel Energy’s outage map lists nearly 200 outages affecting more than 10,000 people as of 4:20 p.m.
