74-year-old man injured after vehicle crash in St. James

A 74-year-old man was airlifted to the hospital after a vehicle struck him while on his bicycle Tuesday night in St. James.

According to the St. James Police Department, at 9:02 p.m., authorities responded to a vehicle vs bicyclist accident on the 400 block of 1st Avenue South.

The driver was traveling west on the 400 block of 1st Avenue South in a 1999 Oldsmobile Delta 88 when oncoming headlights from eastbound traffic blinded him. The driver then struck bicyclist Danny Ralph Smith, 74, of St. James, while Smith was riding in the west-bound parking lane.

Smith sustained injures and was transported to Mayo St. James and later airlifted to Rochester. At this time, Smith is listed in stable condition.
