62-year-old Spicer man arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired, leading police on pursuit

A Spicer, Minnesota man has been arrested after he led police on a high-speed pursuit Tuesday night.

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office said it received information from the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office regarding a driving complaint of a vehicle headed to Meeker County on Highway 12. The information received included the possibility of the driver being under the influence, according to authorities.

Deputies saw the vehicle on the mentioned highway in Grove City and witnessed it "swerving within the lane and crossing the center line."

According to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, police attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and continued to travel eastbound toward Litchfield. Meeker County deputies, along with the Litchfield Police Department, deployed stop sticks, and the driver hit them and kept going toward the city. Prior to reaching Litchfield, police say a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) was used on the suspect vehicle and caused the vehicle to spin in the opposite direction, causing the driver to continue westbound toward Grove City. Another PIT technique was attempted again, and this time the driver drove his vehicle into a ditch and came to a rest off Highway 12 in the area of CSAH 31.

The driver, identified only as a 62-year-old man, was taken into custody. He has been booked into the Meeker County Jail pending a formal court appearance on charges of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and suspicion of driving while impaired.
