Police say a 4-year-old girl was severely hurt after a vehicle hit her Monday evening in the Dayton’s Bluff neighborhood of St. Paul.

St. Paul Police Sgt. Natalie Davis said around 5 p.m., officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run at the intersection of North Forest and Margaret streets. When officers arrived, they found the girl suffering from a leg injury.

Witnesses told police an SUV or truck hit the child and then drove off.

The child received first aid and was taken to the hospital, police said. Her condition is unknown, but she is expected to survive.

Police said this is an active investigation and no arrests have been made.
