39-year-old Minneapolis man identified in Lake Nokomis drowning

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified a Minneapolis man who died two days after he was pulled from Lake Nokomis.

Jose Antonio Chimborazo-Quizhpi, 39, died of a freshwater drowning the morning of June 18, according to an autopsy report. His death was ruled an accident.

The Minneapolis Fire Department was called for a water rescue around 6 p.m. June 16 at Lake Nokomis. Firefighters transported the victim to the hospital. He was in critical condition at the time.

Chimborazo-Quizhpi's drowning is one in a slew of recent incidents in Minneapolis.

An Ohio woman who fell into Minnehaha Falls on June 17 died of complications from a drowning on Tuesday. On June 19, a California man drowned at Bde Maka Ska.

Last weekend, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board put lifeguards back on duty at three popular Minneapolis beaches, including one at Lake Nokomis.
