2 unrelated fires under investigation in Woodbury

Two unrelated fires remain under investigation Wednesday in Woodbury.

According to a police commander, Woodbury Public Safety responded to the 400 block of Woodduck Place at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a structure fire in the area.

Woodbury fire, Oakdale fire and Cottage Grove fire officials were able to extinguish the fire, which displaced several families. No injuries were reported.

An investigation of the scene took place Wednesday and the police commander said officials are examining evidence and interviewing residents as well as working with insurance investigators and the property owner.

Meanwhile, Woodbury Public Safety was also called to the 2100 block of Vining Drive on Monday after receiving a 911 call reporting a townhouse on fire.

Upon arrival, officials found a vehicle parked in a tuck-under garage that was engulfed in flames. The fire, which was reported as being suspicious, was extinguished and damage was reportedly contained to one unit.

While officials were working to extinguish the fire, a resident reported seeing a man who was only wearing underwear steal a bicycle in the area. That man was found a few blocks away when another resident reported suspicious behavior. The man was transported to Regions Hospital, according to the police commander.

Both fires remain under investigation and the police commander said they are not connected.
