2 teens arrested after fleeing police in Minneapolis

Two teens were arrested Friday after authorities say they fled police in a stolen vehicle.

According to John Elder, the director of police information with Minneapolis, officers who were working in the area of 22nd Street and Bloomington Avenue South ran a license plate on a vehicle and learned it had been stolen.

Before the officers were able to stop the vehicle, it fled the area at a high rate of speed, almost hitting an officer who was on foot.

The suspect vehicle went to enter the freeway but was unable to due to a crash it had been involved in.

The two suspects attempted to flee on foot, but were apprehended by the responding officers.

Elder said the driver, identified as a 17-year-old boy, had a felony warrant out for his arrest for escape from custody. The passenger, identified as a 13-year-old boy, also had an escape from custody warrant, as well as eight previous cases for aggravated robberies in the juvenile system.

The two teens are being held on probable cause second-degree assault, probable cause fleeing and probable cause aggravated robbery.
