Two people were rescued and a fire was extinguished after an aerial lift hit a power line in Stearns County on Sunday.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to a home on the 38000 block of County Road 1 in Brockway Township just before 5 p.m.

Authorities learned two people were on a lift about 30 feet off the ground when it struck a power line.

Portions of the lift caught fire but the homeowners and neighbors were able to put out the fire on and around the lift, the sheriff’s office said.

Xcel Energy crews turned off the power and removed the line entangled with the lift while firefighters helped the two people on the lift.

According to deputies, the homeowner was hanging Christmas lights in a tree when the lift hit the power line.

Fortunately, nobody was injured.
