2 dozen floors still evacuated after flooding at IDS Center

More than two dozen floors remained closed Thursday due to flooding at the IDS Center in downtown Minneapolis.

Accesso, which owns the IDS Center, told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Wednesday that a water expansion tank had overflowed and impacted some electrical equipment, leading to the evacuation of several floors.

As of Thursday, many floors remained closed while cleanup efforts continued.

“Work continues to safely dry out the electrical system and the impacted tenant and common areas throughout the tower. Floors 26 to 51 remain closed while this effort is under way,” Accesso said in a statement. “Staff has been on site around the clock extracting carpets and placing fans throughout affected areas. Once complete, Accesso will work with property staff and contractors to assess and fix any remaining damage.”

The 57-story tower houses office and retail spaces at the corner of South Eighth Street and Nicollet Mall.
