2 dozen calves killed in fire at farm north of Grove City
More than two dozen calves were killed and a building was destroyed in a fire north of Grove City on Monday.
The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office said it was alerted to a fire at a dairy farm in the 51000 block of 310th Street in Swede Grove Township at 1:55 p.m.
Deputies, along with firefighters from Grove City, Litchfield, Atwater and Paynesville, responded to the scene.
An initial investigation indicates the fire likely started while a welder was being used, the sheriff’s office said.
The building and its contents were a complete loss, and between 25 and 30 calves died in the fire.
