2 dead after separate ATV crashes in northern Minnesota

Two solo ATV crashes in northern Minnesota caused the deaths of two men on July 4 in northern Minnesota.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, one of the crashes occurred in Itasca County. The ATV driver, identified as 60-year-old Martin Dale Plaisted of Hibbing, hit an elevated part of the trail and rolled the ATV over. Plaisted was trapped under the ATV and was submerged underwater. Plaisted died as a result of the crash.

40-year-old woman dies in ATV crash in Carlton County

The other crash occurred in Carlton County. According to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, they were alerted to an ATV crash at 8:31 p.m. Saturday. While the crash itself was unwitnessed, it appeared that the ATV was traveling down a hill and rolled over on top of the 48-year-old victim according to the Sheriff’s office. The victim was pinned under the ATV. Life-saving measures were attempted however the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both crashes are under investigation.
