2 Barron County sheriff deputies injured in attempted arrest

Two deputies from the Barron County Sheriff's Department were injured in an attempt to arrest a 53-year-old man early Sunday.

According to Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald, at about 12:34 a.m., the department received a call detailing a disturbance occurring on the 1100 block of 12th Street, located just west of Barron, Wisconsin.

Deputies from the department arrived and during the course of the investigation, attempted to take Joe Brown, 53, into custody. However, Brown resisted arrest and, during the struggle, injured two deputies.

Both deputies were treated at Mayo Hospital for hand injuries. One deputy is back on patrol and the other deputy will require surgery and be out for eight to 12 weeks.

Brown is being held in the Barron County Jail on charges relating to bail jumping, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and battery to a law enforcement officer. Formal charges are pending by the Barron County District Attorney's Office.
