2 adults, 2 kids flown to hospitals after 3 separate Cass Co. ATV crashes

Three separate ATV crashes in northern Minnesota over this past weekend left four people with serious injuries.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the first crash happened just after 10 a.m. Saturday in rural Boy River. Authorities were told a 15-year-old boy was driving an ATV when he lost control and hit several trees.

The boy was treated at the scene for serious injuries before being taken to a medical helicopter, which then flew him to a Twin Cities hospital.

According to the department, speed appears to have played a role in the crash.

The next crash happened just after 6 p.m. Sunday in rural Hackensack. Deputies learned a Shakopee woman was driving an ATV with a 3-year-old boy when they accelerated and crashed into a tree, throwing them from the machine.

The woman and boy were airlifted to Twin Cities-area hospitals to be treated for serious injuries.

Then, at around 6:11 p.m. Sunday, deputies were called to an ATV crash in rural Backus. Deputies learned a Sleepy Eye man was driving an ATV when he lost control, left the roadway and rolled into a ditch that was partially filled with water.

The man was flown to a Fargo hospital with serious injuries.

None of the victims’ conditions were clear as of Tuesday morning.
