2 adults, 2 children taken to hospital after crash involving tired driver
Four people, including two young children, were taken to a hospital after a crash involving a tired driver Friday morning.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a reported crash at County Road 75 and County Road 3 in St. Joseph Township at about 10:35 a.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, 18-year-old Calvin Coplan, of Holdingford, was driving a 2011 gray Dodge Charger west on County Road 75 when it struck a tan 2020 Chrysler Town and Country. The Chrysler ended up in the northwest ditch.
The traffic light at the intersection was red for westbound traffic at the time, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver of the Chrysler, identified as 34-year-old Richard Blonigen, of Holdingford, along with his wife and two children, ages 2 and 1 month, were taken to a hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. Coplan was treated at the scene.
According to the sheriff’s office, Coplan reported he was tired and believed he fell asleep because he didn’t recall entering the intersection.
