18-year-old uninjured after shot at multiple times in St. Cloud, suspect in custody

An 18-year-old was shot at multiple times in St. Cloud while he was inside his vehicle Sunday.

According to the St. Cloud Police Department, at 3:16 p.m., officers were sent to the area of Sixth Street and 10th Avenue North for a gunshot report. Once officers arrived, they located an 18-year-old victim who’d been shot at multiple times while driving his car. The victim wasn’t injured but the rounds damaged his vehicle.

Police said the investigation revealed that a suspect had been following the victim as he was driving his vehicle around the neighborhood before the shooting. The suspect is an acquaintance of the victim and had been involved in a dispute with the victim’s family earlier in the day. At the intersection of Sixth Street North and 10th Avenue, the lone suspect leaned out of his vehicle and fired multiple shots at the victim while he was alone and inside his vehicle. Immediately after the shooting, the suspect left the area in his vehicle.

Through the course of the investigation, the suspect was identified as 20-year-old Ca’Mari Smith, from Minnetonka. Smith was taken into custody by officers in Minnetonka and transported to the Stearns County Jail, where he was held on charges related to the shooting.
