18-year-old hit, killed in Alexandria

An 18-year-old woman died after being hit by a vehicle while crossing a road in Alexandria.

Alexandria Police said officers responded to a pedestrian-involved accident in the 400 block of McKay Avenue at about 10:03 p.m. Friday.

Police said Maya Laina Ayala was crossing McKay Avenue when she was hit by a 1994 Mercury Marquis, driven by 19-year-old Andrew Lindner. Lindner immediately stopped and called 911, the department said.

Ayala was transported to a hospital by ambulance and then airlifted to a hospital in St. Cloud. However, she later died from the injuries suffered in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
