A 17-year-old from St. Paul is one of only five high school students to be named a 2020 National Student Poet.

Maddy Dietz was named one of the finalists on Wednesday.

This is considered the nation’s highest honor for youth poets presenting their own work. The competition was started by former First Lady Michelle Obama back in 2012.

Maddy will be honored at a ceremony next month.
