1 of 3 Anoka County carjacking, chase suspects sentenced

One of three people charged in an Anoka County carjacking and police chase case that happened in October was convicted on Monday.

According to court documents, 24-year-old Baily Brittney Held must serve a three-year probation for her role in the incident. Held was also convicted of receiving stolen property. A robbery charge was dismissed.

The other two suspects—Ahmed Bahaa Abdelhafiz, 31, and Jonnilee Marie Seeman, 21—are expected to be sentenced in August.

Abdelhafiz pleaded guilty earlier this month to robbery and both Abdelhafiz and Seeman pleaded guilty to fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.

On Oct. 8, officers responded to MHC Imports in Anoka on a vehicle theft report. Employees told police a white car was missing.

Shortly afterward, a caller reported three people were loading a white car onto a trailer hooked up to a black car on Maple Avenue.

When officers arrived, they talked with the driver of the black car, identified as Abdelhafiz. Held was also in the car. While speaking with Abdelhafiz, the officer noticed the white car on the trailer matched the description of the vehicle stolen near MHC Imports. Abdelhafiz then drove off and ignored the officer’s orders to stop, the complaint states.

Seeman got into a maroon vehicle parked on the street, ignored the officer’s commands to stop, and also drove away before crashing nearby. She was taken into custody.

Meanwhile, Abdelhafiz continued to lead several agencies on a chase and officers noticed the trailer was no longer attached to the car Abdelhafiz was driving. At one point, he stopped the vehicle, and he and Held ran to an SUV on Highway 10 in Anoka, ordered the occupants out, and drove away in the SUV, the complaint states. Law enforcement attempted a PIT maneuver but it was unsuccessful.

Eventually, Abdelhafiz crashed into two squad cars and then crashed along Juniper Ridge Circle. Abdelhafiz resisted arrest and was bitten by a K-9 before being taken into custody. Held was also arrested.

Law enforcement officials said the pursuit lasted over 30 miles and reached speeds of over 120 mph at times, with Abdelhafiz also driving into oncoming traffic at several points.
