One person died early Monday morning after a rollover crash in St. Paul.
According to police, a passerby reported the crash and that a man was lying in the middle of the road near Maryland Avenue East and Johnson Parkway at about 1 a.m.
St. Paul Police said the driver — a 23-year-old man from St. Cloud — was ejected from the vehicle.
First responders attempted life-saving efforts but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers then found the heavily damaged 2005 Mercury Mariner and noted it appeared to have rolled. Authorities also noted the vehicle likely was traveling at a high rate of speed when it rolled.
One witness reported hearing gunshots in the area just before the crash. Police said a gun was recovered outside the vehicle but it’s still unclear what role, if any, the gun played in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
