1 injured following stabbing in Aitkin County, suspect in custody

Authorities say one person was injured following a stabbing in Aitkin County.

The Aitkin County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called Thursday on the report of a stabbing at a home in Spalding Township.

When authorities arrived, they learned both the suspect and the victim had left the home.

Law enforcement officials were able to locate the suspect, identified as Clifford Monroe Skinaway, along Highway 65.

Deputies searched the area of the home and were able to locate the victim, who the sheriff's office identified as 45-year-old Clinton Nichols.

Nichols was taken to an area hospital and was later transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Skinaway has been charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault. He is being held in the Aitkin County Jail at this time.
