1 dead from house fire in Miltona

A victim was found dead in Miltona after a house fire early Sunday morning.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, at 5:55 a.m., they received two 911 calls of a structure fire at an address on 1st Street in Miltona, Minn. The complainant was reporting heavy smoke and visible flames were coming from the home. Miltona Fire Department was immediately dispatched to the scene, along with Parker’s Prairie and Carlos Fire, for mutual aid.

Once officials arrived at the scene, information was obtained that the home may be occupied. Miltona Fire Department was able to gain entry to the two-story home and found one victim.

The sheriff’s office said the victim was extricated from the home and did not show signs of life. Resuscitation efforts were made but unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced deceased on scene.

The State Fire Marshall’s office had been notified and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Victim information is being withheld until family notifications are made.
