‘Especially troubling’ and ‘horrific’ Minneapolis shootings leave 2 dead, 1 hurt
Minneapolis police are investigating two separate shootings that have left two people dead, and another person hurt, within just hours of each other.
As of this publishing, police say they don’t believe the shootings are related to each other, and no one has been arrested in either incident.
The first shooting happened late Thursday on the 2400 block of 18th Avenue South around 8:50 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a 31-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. Although officers gave the man medical aid, he later died.
On Saturday, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the man as Roberto Julian Manzano-Gomez of Minneapolis.
According to police, they believe the shots were fired at close range, and officers believe a group of three or four people ran away after the shooting.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara called this shooting “especially troubling” due to it happening at a close range.
“Our investigators are working to identify those responsible. I urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward and assist our efforts in seeking justice for the victim,” said O’Hara in a statement early Friday morning.

Less than six hours later, Minneapolis police were called to a home on the 2500 block of 26th Avenue North around 1:45 a.m. Friday for another shooting.
A man and woman, both reportedly in their 20s, were found inside with gunshot wounds.
Although officers gave the man aid, he died at the scene. He was later identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner as 23-year-old James Mathis Easton.
The woman was brought to the hospital for what are considered by police to be non-life-threatening injuries.
According to police, shots were fired from outside the home and hit both of the victims, however, officers are still working to figure out what led up to the shooting.
O’Hara called this second homicide “horrific” in a statement on Friday, adding that the shooting “appears to be targeted.”
“We cannot stand by and let this continue. Anyone with information should come forward and assist our investigators,” said O’Hara.
