1 dead, 1 seriously hurt after falling from boom truck in Elk River

One person died and another was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries following an accident Tuesday afternoon in Elk River.

According to Elk River police, officers and fire crews responded to Elk River Senior Living on a report that two people had fallen from a boom truck.

Police say the two were private citizens who were trying to straighten out a bent flagpole at the senior living center when they fell.

One of the individuals was pronounced dead at the scene and another was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries. Police didn’t have an update on the second person’s status as of Wednesday morning.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the two to fall from the boom truck.

“The people that were hurt are people that are near and dear to our senior community,” said Stephanie Frederick, a spokesperson for Elk River Senior Living’s management company. “Out of respect for their families, friends and seniors at our senior living communities, we ask for prayers and support from the community during this difficult time. Our hearts and our prayers are with the families, our senior community and our associates.”
