Organizers: Basilica Block Party to take 1-year hiatus
Organizers of the Basilica Block Party say they will take a planned one-year hiatus so they can plan the event for the future.
Although the Block Party was held last September, attendance numbers were smaller than they were in years before the COVID-19 pandemic.
As previously reported, the 2021 event required attendees to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test result within 72 hours to gain access to the event. Face masks weren’t required but were strongly encouraged.
The annual summer event which began in 1995 was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns.
Holly Dockendorf, the special events manager for the Basilica of St. Mary, says taking the year off will give them time to rethink what the event can be in the future, and how to make it better.
