Negotiations to continue between Kemps, union representatives Wednesday

Kemps officials and union representatives are scheduled to meet Wednesday as work continues to avoid a strike at the dairy company’s ice cream plant in Rochester.

The meeting comes after the union rejected the latest contract offer from Kemps over the weekend in a 136-1 vote.

The union has been pushing for higher wages and more health care benefits, as well as better union protections from Kemps.

Both sides have been negotiation for weeks after workers voted to strike last month.

If a deal isn’t reached, workers could go on strike this week, which could have major impacts on ice cream supplies in the Midwest.
