JCPenney closing 4 Minnesota stores, 154 nationally

J. C. Penney on Thursday identified the 154 stores it will close in its first phase of closures, including four in Minnesota.

The four local stores closing include:

  • Riverdale Village location in Coon Rapids,
  • Eden Prairie Center location,
  • Grove Square Shopping Center location in Maple Grove,
  • Kandi Mall location in Willmar.

The company said it expects additional phases of store closings in the coming weeks. However, store closing sales for the first round of stores are expected to take 10 to 16 weeks to complete.

Pandemic claims yet another retailer: J.C. Penney

The announcement comes after it announced it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month.

J. C. Penney currently operates 850 stores and it has nearly 90,000 workers. It said that it received $900 million in financing to help it operate during the restructuring.
