General Mills restructuring could cost up to 1,400 jobs
General Mills is expected to cut more than 1,000 jobs as part of a company restructuring process, the company said Monday.
Kelsey Roemhildt, a General Mills spokesperson, said the Minneapolis-based company expects to eliminate 700 to 800 jobs across North America and 500 to 600 internationally as part of the restructuring efforts.
"As we shared in our 8-K filing, we are making organizational changes to ensure General Mills continues its momentum. We are investing in key areas such as digital, data & technology, E-commerce and others that are critical to our future success," Roemhildt said in a statement to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS on Monday.
In a Form 8-K filing, General Mills said it expects to incur charges of around $160 million in the current fiscal year, primarily due to severance expenses. The filing also said the company expects these actions to be finished by the end of fiscal 2023 with a total cost of between $170 million and $220 million.
General Mills Chairman and CEO Jeff Harmening shared a little more detail about the restructuring efforts in a recent investor conference, adding that his leadership team was also restructured.
"To be clear, this is not simply a cost-cutting exercise. The goal of this initiative is to free up resources from parts of our organization and redeploy them to more growth-facing areas," Harmening said in the conference.
