Walz lifts prescription restrictions for hydroxychloroquine

Last week, Gov. Tim Walz lifted prescription restrictions for hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug President Donald Trump has touted as a treatment for COVID-19.

In a previous executive order, Walz authorized the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy to require that prescriptions for the malaria drug must have an appropriate diagnosis and "be dispensed no more than 30 days at a time."

Walz issued the order lifting the restrictions because he says it has been proven that the drug is not an effective treatment for COVID-19 which has caused demand for the drug to go down.
