NYU senior medical students allowed to graduate early to get more doctors during COVID-19 pandemic

Senior medical students at New York University are being allowed to graduate early in an effort to add more doctors to the medical field.

According to a statement, the senior medical students were informed on Tuesday that if they have met all requirements and credits, they will be granted early graduation.

The goal is to add more doctors to the medical field amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

NYU sent out a statement to the students saying:

“In response to the growing spread of COVID-19, and in response to Governor Cuomo’s directive to get more physicians into the health system more quickly, NYU Grossman School of Medicine and NYU have agreed to permit early graduation for its medical students, pending approval from the New York State Department of Education, Moddle States and the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).”

Students were told details are still being finalized and in some cases, they could begin working as early as sometime in April with no location for employment finalized at this point.
