Wisconsin governor to extend public health emergency into 2021, extend mask mandate

Wednesday, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said he is signing a new executive order and extending the state’s face mask mandate.

Evers made the announcement during a news conference Wednesday.

According to ABC affiliate WISN-TV, Evers said he is signing a new executive order extending Wisconsin’s public health emergency into 2021. That order, per WISN-TV, is now set to end in mid-January.

Evers also plans to extend the face mask mandate that was originally set to expire Saturday. A new order will be issued either Thursday or Friday.

Meanwhile, Evers called on Wisconsin Republicans to show public support for the orders in an effort to help slow the spread of the virus.

Wednesday, Wisconsin health officials reported there are 52 new COVID-19 deaths and 7,989 new cases.
