What you need to know about Minnesota’s new COVID-19 restrictions
As COVID-19 cases continue to grow in Minnesota and the Midwest, Gov. Tim Walz has issued a number of new restrictions impacting businesses and gatherings.
The restrictions are set to go into effect at 11:59 p.m. Friday and will last until Dec. 18.
Below is a breakdown of the new restrictions:
What does the governor’s restrictions say about gatherings?
Under the new restrictions, Minnesotans are asked not to hold indoor or outdoor gatherings with anyone outside of their immediate household.
What’s closing? What’s open?
Bars, restaurants and breweries will close at 11:59 p.m. Friday, however, they are allowed to continue carry out and delivery services.
Gyms, indoor events and entertainment, outdoor events and entertainment, reception sapces and swimming pools and waterparks are also closed under the restrictions.
Retail, critical businesses and non-critical businesses are allowed to remain open but must have a COVID-19 preparedness plan.
Salons, babershops and tattoo parlors are allowed to operate with certain capacity restrictions in place. Appointments are also required.
Places of worship can remain open, however, virtual services are strongly recommended. Weddings, funerals and similar ceremonies are also allowed under the restrction. All receptions and gatherings connected to the ceremonies must be canceled or postponed.
Campgrounds will remain open, however, those using the spaces must follow the guidelines regarding gatherings.
Are schools closing?
All public and private schools will operate under a in-person, hybrid or distance learning plan in accordance with the state’s Safe Learning Plan.
Childcare and youth programming will remain open and are asked to follow CDC guidelines.
What about sports?
All youth and adult organized sports are paused or canceled under the new restrictions.
