Ride-hailing company Uber is introducing face detection technology to ensure its drivers are wearing masks in the midst of COVID-19.
In a tweet, Uber stated it is using the technology to confirm drivers are wearing a mask or a face covering "to help keep our community safe."
According to the video posted, drivers will be required to upload a photo of themselves wearing a mask or face covering before they are able to begin accepting rides.

Uber’s Global Head of Safety Products Sachin Kansal demonstrated to ABC News how the new software in the company’s app can determine whether the driver is wearing a face covering based on the photo.
The company stated the technology is the latest measure it has introduced to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Uber stated it has also prohibited front-seat passengers, added safety checklists and added new safety features to its app.
