State Department warns Americans to avoid cruise ship travel
The U.S. Department of State is warning Americans, especially those with underlying health conditions, to avoid traveling by cruise ship.
The State Department cited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s increased risk of COVID-19 infections on cruise ships as the main reason to avoid cruise ships.
Many countries have also implemented strict rules that don’t allow ships to enter ports or passengers to leave the ship as the COVID-19 spread continues.

Older adults and travelers with health issues are urged to avoid situations that put them at increased risk for the disease, such as being in crowded places, long plane rides and cruise ship travel, the State Department said.
The department also urged anyone with plans to travel by cruise ship to contact the cruise line company directly for more information and possible re-booking opportunities.
